Spinning Workshop – March 18, 2023

Breaking Out of Your Default Yarn

10 am – 12 pm
Ohio Craft Museum, 1665 W. 5th Avenue, Columbus 43212.

The classroom is on the lower level.
Enter through the rear of the building if you need to access an elevator.

Do you find yourself spinning the same yarn over and over again, in different colors or fibers? Would you like to make your spinning more versatile? Would you like to learn different techniques to create a new-to-you yarn?

In this workshop, Donita will teach you to make small changes to your wheel setup, your spinning technique, and your finishing approach that will break you out of your default yarn and help you begin to explore the wide world of hand spinning yarns you can create!

Skill Level Needed: Advanced beginner and up. Students should be able to confidently spin a continuous single on the wheel they plan to use during class AND have experience both spinning and plying their own handspun yarn.

Required Equipment: Spinning wheel – please bring additional pulleys/whorls (or flyers if the flyer also contains pulleys/whorls) you may have for your wheel as well.

Required Materials: Bring 4 oz. of combed wool top AND 2-4 oz. of batt (mostly wool will work best, but added sparkle or plant fibers will be fine, too).

Masks are required for this class – Thank you in advance!

How to Register: Click on this link to complete the registration form. You may also send an email to Alissa Head, guild treasurer, at [email protected] with SPINNING WORKSHOP in the subject line. Be sure to note whether you are a member or non-member. You will receive an invoice once your registration is confirmed.

Cancellation Policy: Your spot will be made available to the next person on the waiting list. We will notify you if there isn’t anyone on the waiting list, and you may attempt to find your own replacement to be eligible for a refund. Workshops are “self-sufficient” and fees are set up to break even on the cost, so refunds are not guaranteed.
