Saturday, February 10, 2024
10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Gillie Senior Community Center, 2100 Morse Rd., Columbus 43229

Explore off-loom warp painting using fabric paints. This direct and spontaneous method of applying color to yarn can be used for functional or non-functional pieces. Learn my method of preparing a warp for off-loom warp painting, assuring that threads are evenly spaced and under tension for ease of painting. The use of a cartoon is optional. Students will go home with an off-loom painted warp to weave at home.

Cost: $100 +$20 (materials fee) for guild members (membership required prior to workshop registration); $125 +$20 (materials fee) for non-members.  Materials fee includes a prepared warp, paints, supplies needed for painting, and handouts. Students need to bring additional supplies. Born and raised in Ohio, Kathie Roig began weaving in 1980 after graduating from Otterbein University with a BA in Visual Arts. Working as an assistant to a professional weaver for several years provided her with a strong foundation to pursue her own work. She created functional items such as clothing and home accessories selling in galleries, art fairs, and in her own studio/shop. In 2000 she began to pursue the idea of creating weavings as her personal expression of time and place.

From 2006-2021 Kathie lived in North Carolina, where each location provided her with inspiration. Returning to Ohio in 2021, the wide open landscape was equally inspiring and filled with memories from her youth.

Kathie’s weavings have been exhibited throughout the United States in various venues and have received many awards. She has lectured and taught at various weaving conferences, craft schools, and weaving guilds. Click here to read more about Kathie and see her work.
