SUMMARY:Program: The Nettle dress documentary
DESCRIPTION:Main Library – Meeting Room 3B\n96 S Grant Ave\, Columbus\, OH 43215\n\nJoin the Guild in viewing the documentary\, The Nettle Dress. This film takes viewers on a seven year endeavour with textile artist Allen Brown who weaves a hand-spun dress from stinging nettles that he foraged locally. His story is also one of loss and grief\, as he used this project to process the passing of his wife. After the program\, we will have a short discussion about the documentary before finishing with a business meeting and show and tell.

Many of their employees have autism or other special needs\, Ability Weavers believe that every individual is worthy of having meaningful employment. For that reason\, each weaver gets paid a real hourly wage\, even above minimum wage. Ability Weavers encourage everyone to do their very best and to work to their highest potential.  Everyone is equally important\, equally appreciated and fairly paid. After our presentation from Beryl Bartkus\, the owner of Ability Weavers\, the guild will have a short business meeting.

This process is an early form of sun-print photography in which iron compounds react with a light source to produce images on a chosen surface. During the workshop students will produce prints on fabric utilizing found natural materials like flowers and leaves. Come and learn how to make a custom fabric to enjoy as is or to use as material in your project.
